Judge Will Issue Decision on VCEA vs. School Board Hearing Next Week

Michael Geiermann, attorney for the Valley City Education Association, presents arguments to Judge Jay Schmitz Monday at a hearing between the VCEA and Valley City Public School Board to determine if the board was justified in issuing unilateral contracts to teachers after the two entities failed to reach an agreement during negotiations in February.

Southeast Judicial District Judge Jay Schmitz said he will issue a decision in a court hearing between the Valley City Public School board and Valley City Education Association by next week. The four-hour hearing, held Wednesday afternoon at the Barnes County Courthouse, was to determine of the unilateral contracts issued by the board to the teachers are legal.
