Jessica Meland 24th in NAIA Hammer Throw

(VCSU Athletics) Valley City State sophomore Jessica Meland took 24th with a Hammer Throw distance of 45.33 meters (148 feet, 9 inches) at May 15’s National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Valley City State sophomore Jessica Meland, of Harvey, N.D., competed in her first National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Women’s Hammer Throw Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala., on May 15, where she fouled on her first and third attempts but landed 24th place on her second throw, which sailed 45.33 meters (148 feet, 9 inches).

Meland’s 45.33 meters was shy of her personal-best 50.29 meters (165 feet) set at the Northern State Open on April 18.

Senior Reta Woodard of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Daytona Beach, Fla.) won the event with a distance of 55.46 meters (181 feet, 11 inches).
