James King, age 73, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Valley City, ND, passed away Wednesday, May 22 at Sanford Health Palliative Care Unit in Fargo. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 28th at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Valley City with Reverend Lucas Aufenkamp officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the New Life Assembly of God Church and one hour before the service Tuesday afternoon. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday evening at the church. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.
James Alfred King, the son of Ralph and Ella (Nordstrom) King, was born August 26, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN. Jim grew up and attended school in Minneapolis and graduated from High School in 1957. Jim then attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis. After his graduation from college, Jim was a pastor at congregations in Long Prairie, MN, Mound, MN and Grand Forks, ND. On December, 1975 Jim married Ruth Hershey in Auburn, WA. Jim then worked at the Country Kitchen in Valley City from 1975 until 1980. In December, 1980 he purchased and began running the Hilltop Café until his retirement in 2006. Jim and Ruth moved to Fargo, ND in 2012. Jim enjoyed woodworking, spending time out at Lake Ashtabula, Music, Singing, Tinkering on Projects and visiting with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife Ruth, Fargo, ND; three sons, Ron (Deb) King, Valley City, ND, Rob (Huyen) King, Charleston, SC and Roger King, Loveland, CO; two daughters, Sharlene (James) Boyd, Hollywood, FL and Rochelle King, Fargo, ND; one brother, William (Evelyn) King, Princeton, MN; one sister, Dorothy (Lester) Kringle, Mountain Lake, MN; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
