The Times-Record got out and talked to a wide variety of Winter Show attendees on Wednesday, asking them where theyâre from and why they came out to the show.
Cleone Genre and Larry Junker of Valley City danced their socks off at Senior Dance Day Wednesday. âHaving fun? You bet,â said Junker of the polka-themed music of Marv and the Moonlighters. âWe like âem all, but we do prefer a good two-step.â
Dolly Nitz, of Rossi, Minn., was spotted having fun during Senior Dance Day at the Eagles.
Why did you come to the Winter Show? Nitz and her husband drive to Valley City specially each year to attend the dance, but donât partake in the other Winter Show events.
What is your favorite part of the Winter Show? âItâs only a hundred miles,â Nitz said. âWe keep coming back (to Senior Dance Day) every year because itâs so much fun.â

Why did you come to the Winter Show?
âI donât live very far away, so I came around just for the day to see whatâs here again.â
What is your favorite part of the Winter Show? âLooking at the machinery before it moves out, and checking out a few tools.â
Lynsey Schmitz, a fifth grader from Oakes, N.D.
Why did you come to the Winter Show?
âIâm showing pigs and cattle. Iâve been doing it since I was two.â
What is your favorite part of the Winter Show? âHaving fun and hanging out with friends.â Schmitz also said she expected to place in both the Steer Classic and Market Hog shows.
Art Anderson, a retired farmer from Rogers, N.D.
Why did you come to the Winter Show?
âHabit, I guess. Iâve been coming ever since back when they held the Winter Show down by Pegg Garage.â
What is your favorite part of the Winter Show? âLooking for something new. Every once in a while thereâs some new things. I like to look at the advances in farm equipment and some of the ag programs they present. (On Tuesday) they had an interesting field tiling program.â
Clark Cronquist, a retired farmer and current rancher from Gilby, N.D.
Why did you come to the Winter Show? âTo see the cattle (at the Steer Classic Show.) Thatâs what I want to do, see which is going to win.â
What is your favorite part of the Winter Show? âI think the cattle, the horses and the machinery are the best. We also like to visit with the vendors a little bit.â
