A Valley City man faces several charges stemming from a hit-and-run accident Thursday night.
Rickey Lee Johnson, 54, of Valley City was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident after a vehicle matching his was spotted by a witness to the hit-and-run.
At about 10 p.m. Thursday, VCPD responded to a report of a hit-and-run at the intersection of Fifth Avenue Northwest and 12th Street Northwest, according to VCPD Chief Fred Thompson.
A witness reported a white vehicle, which was traveling north on Fifth Avenue, drove through the posted stop sign, without stopping, and struck a fence and then a light pole. The witness told the driver to stop, but the vehicle left the area and was last seen going southbound on Fifth Avene Northwest. Officers found a license plate that belonged on a car owned by Johnson at the scene.
After finding the Nissan Maxima, with front-end damage and a missing front license plate, in Johnson's driveway, the suspect was given a field sobriety test, arrested and booked into the Barnes County Correctional Center.
This investigation is on-going and the VCPD requests anyone with information on this case contact (701) 845-3110.
