Hi-Liner Fastpitch Falls to Bishop Ryan Friday, Beats Minot Twice Saturday

Hi-Liner Fastpitch managed just five hits in a 13-1 loss to Bishop Ryan in Friday's first round of the West Fargo Tournament before the second and third rounds were cancelled, so Valley City returned home to defeat Minot High 14-3 and 8-6 in non-conference action on Saturday.

Valley City (1-0 Eastern Dakota Conference, 6-1 overall) enters a road doubleheader against Devils Lake at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, of which one game will count toward conference standings.

Bishop Ryan 13, Hi-Liners 1

Bishop Ryan led 2-1 after three innings, then shut the Hi-Liners out after that and scored at least two runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Lions sophomore Sheyenne Schmidt's three hits and junior Hannah Stewart and senior McKenize Ebert's two powered Bishop Ryan. Stewart batted three runs in, Ebert two more.

Valley City seniors Danica Diegel and Dierra Diegel and Paula Andel, junior third base Brooke Breckheimer and sophomore Heather Knutson all came up with a hit. Andel's hit brought Knutson home in the bottom of the third.

Hi-Liners 14, Minot 3

Valley City scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth and did not give up the lead as six Hi-Liners gathered at least two hits. Seniors Dierra Diegel and Paula Andel and junior Sadie Klingenberg came up with three RBIs. Juniors Brooke Breckheimer and Madison McDaniel notched an RBI each.

All five Minot hits came from five different batters, of whom 7th-grader Jaycie Rostad picked up two RBIs.
 
Hi-Liners 8, Minot 6

Valley City opens 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Minot tied it at 2-2 top second and led 6-3 with a three-run fourth but Hi-Liners scored four in the bottom of the fifth and another in the bottom of the sixth.

Dierra Diegel led the Hi-Liners with two hits. Senior Jessica Denholm, Breckheimer, Andel, Klingenberg, sophomore Tarryn Justesen and Danica Diegel all had a hit each. Andel and Justesen drove in two runs, Denholm, Justesen and Danica Diegel one each.

Minot junior Samantha Schiele picked up four hits and an RBI.
