Hearing to Determine Legality of Unilteral Contracts

March 28, 2014

The Valley City Education Association has filed a Writ of Mandamus petition that temporarily restrains the Valley City Public School District from issuing unilateral contracts to teachers after the two entities failed to reach an agreement in contract negotiations earlier this year.

The school board's attorney Rachel Bruner-Kaufman said unilateral teachers contracts were supposed to be issued March 13, but on March 4, the restraining order was signed. Bruner-Kaufman said everything is stalled until a hearing to address the issue is held on April 1 at 1 p.m. at the Barnes County Courthouse. The hearing is open to the public.
