Hazel Brostrom Swan

Hazel Brostrom Swan, 77, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday morning November 14, 2012 at the Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown, ND.
Hazel E. Friestad was born January 21, 1935 on a farm in Barnes County in ND, the daughter of Gilbert Friestad and Olga (Hagen) Friestad. She attended Noltimer School; later moving to Valley City and graduating from Valley City High School in 1953.
Hazel married James D. Brostrom in Valley City in 1954. After the death of her husband, in 1963, she moved to Minneapolis, MN where she continued her career in bookkeeping that she began at North American Fairmont Foods in Valley City.
She married Lowell H. Swan in 1967 and moved to Wheaton, Illinois where she was employed as a Controller with High Lake Poultry. They moved to Jamestown, ND in 1975 and opened a NAPA Auto Parts store that they owned and operated for 11 years. Later they moved to Florida for 3 years to be closer to family and help raise their first grandchild. In 2002 they fully retired and moved back to Jamestown. After the death of her husband in 2005, Hazel moved to Valley City to be closer to her sisters. In 2011 she entered Eventide at Hi-Acres. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, Bingo and sewing.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Darrel (Barbara) Brostrom, Orlando, FL; John Swan, Missoula, MT; grandson, Andrew Brostrom, Orlando, FL; 3 sisters, Frances (Andy) Aune; Marit Zaun and Carrie Breske, all of Valley City, ND.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands; son Dennis Brostrom, brother Ode Friestad and sister Irene Shanenko.
Services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City, ND, Friday, November, 23rd at 2 p.m. and visitation from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the church.
The interment will be at Memory Gardens in Valley City, ND.
Arrangements are with the Haut Funeral Homes in Jamestown, ND.
