VC Babe Ruth loses home games to Jamestown
The Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team lost to Jamestown in two close home games Wednesday at Charlie Brown Memorial Field. Valley City lost 6-5 in game one and dropped the second 6-3.
In the first game, VC led 1-0 after three innings then ran into some control problems and made several costly errors that allowed Jamestown to score six unanswered runs over the next two innings and go up 6-1. VC had a late rally but fell 6-5.
Jordan Magnuson had a strong start on the mound for VC but struggled with his control late in the game He allowed all six runs, but only three were earned. Jesse Johnson pitched in relief. Ben Baasch led Valley City with a 3-4 performance at the plate. Nate Rodriguez went 2-4 with three runs batted in.
Jacob Miller started the second game and had a performance that would have won most games. Jamestown came up with timely that were just out of reach of VC players that led to the outcome.
Miller pitched all five innings and gave up six runs, four earned, on eight hits. Valley City was limited to three total hits in the game. Rodriguez, Lucas Jury and Jonah Wolla each had one.
“Jacob pitched great. Good enough to earn a win,” coach Lance Lukes said. “It was just two or three plays that changed the outcome of this game.”
Valley City will host Lisbon Monday at Charlie Brown Memorial Field in a double header starting at 5 p.m.
