Florence Irene Lere, a beloved sister, a wonderful aunt and an inspiring teacher died Wednesday, October 31, 2012. She was born to Marie and Louis Lere of rural LaMoure, ND, on August 30, 1926. She grew up in the Benson Corner Area, went to school at Gladstone #2 and attended High School in LaMoure. Florence went on to attend Valley City State University receiving her teaching degree. From there, she taught 15 years in North Dakota and 30 years in Pipestone, Minnesota. Having spent her life in service, Florence was a constant inspiration to her siblings, many nieces and nephews, and to all the students she touched over 45 years of teaching.
Upon her retirement in 1992, she returned to the farm she loved. She loved to read, do crosswords, and take care of all the farm cats. She was fortunate to spend precious time with her mother Marie before she passed in 1994. She enjoyed the numerous trips with her brothers and sisters to see the many parts of the USA. Florence loved her family.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents Marie and Louis Lere; brothers Glenn, Orville and Lowell Lere; sisters Kathryn Norberg and Mildred Houge; brothers-in-law Algeo Norberg and Alvin Houge; and one nephew, Allen Lee Norberg. She is survived by sisters Muriel Lere and Alice (Page) Shaw; brothers Roland Lere and Leonard (Doris) Lere; sisters-in-law Ruth Maker, Marcia Zimmerman and Gloria Lere; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, LaMoure, ND. Her funeral service will be held at her lifelong church, High Prairie Lutheran Church on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. and her final resting place will be at High Prairie Cemetery.
