August 20, 2013

Valley City Fire Department firefighters begin packing up hose near the end of their response to a gas leak near FEI about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A post hole digger being used by a fence company punctured a natural gas line near the FEI Inc. building at 913 14th Street SW, ,just south of Interstate 94 Tuesday afternoon in Valley City, causing firefighters and police to evacuate the business and block off the road for about a half hour.
The Valley City Fire Department got word of the gas leak shortly after 1 p.m., and police and firefighters began leaving the scene about 1:45 p.m.
Valley City Fire Department Chief Gary Retterath said the leak caused by the hole digger was a small one in the recently installed gas line, “but for safety's sake” the leak was being dealt with quickly.
