FCCU raises $12K for Relay for Life

First Community Credit Union (FCCU) recently held fundraisers to raise money for Relay for Life, totaling more than $12,000. FCCU has chosen a different organization for each quarter to raise money and awareness for these organizations.

All of FCCU’s 14 branches sold frozen Pizza Corner pizzas in which $2,800 was raised for Relay for Life, with FCCU’s Wishek branch selling the most pizzas at 350. Proceeds collected from employees wearing jeans on designated days were also donated to Relay for Life and luminaries were sold at the branches.

FCCU’s Jamestown branch participated in the Stutsman County Relay for Life with the theme ‘Found Waldo, Now Let’s Find a Cure!’ Fundraisers in Jamestown totaled $6,700. They had a yard ornament fundraiser with ‘Where’s Waldo’ signs, an Easter basket sale as well as a bake sale.
They also had a taco in a bag luncheon and held a barbeque in conjunction with a silent auction. At Relay for Life, they won the Spirit Award for their Waldo theme, as well as winning “The Magic of Relay” contest with their Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs to collect donations from the Relay attendees. They also had a Waldo’s Snack Shop where they sold refreshments to other Relay attendees.

The Napoleon branch participated in their local Relay for Life where they dressed up in western gear to support the cause. Their fundraisers included a bake sale and selling candy bars, totaling $3,800. The Oakes branch also held fundraisers to participate in their local Relay for Life events. Some of the fundraisers included selling cheesecake, a soup and bake sale as well as participating in the “Miss Relay” contest, to raise $2,200 for Relay.

During its 73 year history, First Community Credit Union has grown to be North Dakota’s largest Credit Union with 125 employees and 14 branches whose field of membership covers approximately one third of the state. As a credit union, FCCU is owned by its members. This is different than other financial institutions which are owned by a select group of stockholders. The Credit Union’s profits are returned to the members in the form of better services, accounts, and favorable rates on savings and loans.
