Valley Cityâs Saturday farmers market has been given a new name in honor of Rose Boggetto, a farmers market regular who died April 20.
From now on the market will be called ââRoseâs Valley City Saturday morning Farmers Market.â We just did the new signs,â said Becky Huber, who manages the market with brother Arlen Huber.
Roseâs husband, Jon Boggetto of Valley City, presented the market with a $540 check Saturday in her honor.
âShe was a big fan of the market and worked at the market registering people,â Boggetto said.
Although the market was not named in her will, Boggetto said, âI put it (the contribution) where she would have wanted it.â
The donation was accepted Saturday by Huber and other market sellers Bailey Brown, Rick Holden, Heather Schmidt and Janice Syverson.
Huber said two of Roseâs sisters, Charlene Donahue and Karen Monson, both of Valley City, were also at the market Saturday to honor their sister.
The farmers market opened for the season Saturday at Hirschberger Park. This is the 33rd year the Saturday market has been operating.
The Hubers took over management of the market this season from Sharon Clancy.
Huber has been selling her fresh local vegetables at the market âsince day one.â
Helping the Hubers operate the market this year are Margaret Stoltz and Candy and Mike Rasmussen.
âWe need all the help we can get,â Huber said.
The market will be open from 10 a.m. to noon, with fresh local vegetables, fruits, meats, jams, jelly and baked goods expected to be sold at booths.
