Fargo/Moorhead Ousts Valley City 16U at Northern Championships

Valley City 16U softball’s Northern Championship campaign concluded on Friday in Bismarck, N.D., with a five-inning 11-0 loss to Pool A’s No. 1 and to-be champion Brookings, S.D. Outlaws and a 9-3 defeat to Pool B’s No. 2 Fargo/Moorhead Blaze.

Brookings led 2-0 through an inning, 9-0 after two with the help of a three-RBI swing, and 10-0 through three. Valley City loaded the bases in the fifth but could not convert.

Fargo/Moorhead scored two in the second before Valley City put up two of their own. The Blaze led 3-2 through three and 9-6 with a top-sixth grand slam and a few Valley City errors. Brooke Breckheimer came home on a Kaylee Schlittenhard single, but 9-3 was the final.

Thursday’s Pool B action earned Valley City the No. 4 seed with a four-inning 14-0 loss to Sioux Falls, S.D.’s Dakota Fury and a 12-2, five-inning loss to Muscoda’s Wisconsin Xplozion.
