Saturday, September 8
The 15th annual James River Senior Center Golf Tournament will be held at Hillcrest Golf Course in Jamestown. Shotgun start is at 9 a.m. This is a four person scramble with numerous prizes including hole in one prizes of a 2012 Buick Lacrosse from Don Wilhelm, a stay and play golf vacation to Las Vegas, Razr x Black driver and fairway woods 3,5, and a set of Razr x Black irons 4-sw. The Wings & Wheels Air Show will be held at the Barnes County Municipal Airport, one mile north of Valley City. Gates open at 10 a.m. The Show & Shine will begin at noon. The airshow will begin at 3 p.m.
29th Annual Sodbuster Days Sept. 8 and Sept. 9 at Fort Ransom State Park in Fort Ransom, N.D. Featured this year, is a horse powered threshing machine. Events start at 10 a.m. both days and include live old time music, woodworking, pie auction, log cabin and sodbuster building, and so much more! There will also be games, crafts and a watermelon seed spitting contest for kids. Camping facilities are available. The park is located just two miles north of Fort Ransom on paved road. Bluegrass Association of North Dakota monthly acoustic bluegrass jam session will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Barnes County Museum in Valley City. The jam is free and open to the public. For more information call John Andrus at (701) 762-4891.

Valley City Barnes County Public Library will host story hour from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the library. The theme will be “Treat Yourself to a Good Book.”
Friday, September 14
District One fall meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary will be held at 7 p.m. at the VFW Club in Hillsboro, N.D. Mavis Goodroad, District One President, will preside at the meeting starting at 7 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. The main speaker for the meeting will be the State President, Linda Juntunen, Rolla, ND. Marlys Aubol, State Membership Chairman, will also speak.
Saturday, September 15
VCSU Music Hall of Fame Banquet will be held at the Town & Country Club in Valley City. Two outstanding individuals will inducted into the Hall of Fame: William A. Lydell and Gloria Peterson (in memoriam). All VCSU alumni and friends of the university are invited to attend. A social hour will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The evening will include reminiscences about their days at VCSU as well as the exceptional contributions they have both made to music during their careers. Tickets remain on sale through Sept. 3. Tickets will not be available at the door.
Valley City State University’s Concert Choir will be holding its Annual End of Summer Rummage Sale on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Foss Music Hall on the VCSU campus. Proceeds from the sale support the choir’s activities such as tours. The choir is still accepting items for donation to the sale. Items will be accepted until Friday, September 14th, and can be brought to the Foss Music Hall Office. All items except TVs, microwaves, and clothing are welcome! Please call the VCSU Department of Music at (701) 845-7272 if help is needed in transporting any item to campus for the sale.
Sunday, September 16
Waldhem Lutheran Church in rural Kathryn will host a meatball and lefse dinner from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The Barnes County Senior Center will be hosting the next performance of the “Whoever Can Come Band” jam session 2 p.m. A coffee break and potluck supper will also be part of the activities.
Singspiration at Homewood, featuring an evening of gospel music in an old, recently restored barn, will begin at 4 p.m. at the Tim and Becky Hager farm, Valley City. Take exit 288 off the interstate, drive 5 1/2 miles south on Highway 1 and 1 3/4 miles west. The event is not handicapped accessible; visitors must be able to climb steps. Refreshments will be served following the program.

The Valley City Sheyenne Valley Garden Club will meet in The Past President’s Room at The Eagles Club. The program, “Bees” will be presented by Roger Eggen of Plymouth, Minn. For more information call 845-1805.

Valley City Barnes County Public Library will host story hour from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the library. The theme will be “School Stories.”
Thursday, September 20
Supper night at the Barnes County Senior Center will begin at 5:30 p.m. The entree will be meatballs, and entertainment will be provided by the Ueland Sisters of Ulen, Minn.
Friday, September 21
Full Nelson Karaoke, 8:30 p.m. to midnight in the Valley City American Legion Club rooms. Also at the same time on Oct. 26, Nov. 16. and Dec. 14. Must be 21 or older to attend. The event supports Legion Baseball.
Wednesday, September 26
Valley City Barnes County Public Library will host story hour from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the library. Pastor Dave Montecuollo will be the speaker.
Saturday, September 29 & 30
The Sheyenne Valley Arts & Crafts Association is celebrating the 45th Annual Sheyenne Valley Arts & Crafts Festival on Sept. 29 and 30 in Fort Ransom, N.D. There will be a Bear Creek Art Gallery on display, unique demonstrations, and a food court! Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. No pets please. Sunday, September 30
St. Agatha’s Church will hold their annual fall supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Hope American Legion in Hope, ND. The cost is $10 for adults age 12 and up, $5 for youth ages 6-11 and $2 for youth 5 and younger. The menu will feature turkey dressing meatballs, mashed potatoes and all the trimmings.
