Saturday, October 20
The Saturday Farmers Market will meet every Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the City Auditorium (320 Central Ave. South, Valley City) until Oct. 27.
Valley City State University Planetarium monthly free public Planetarium shows double feature will be shown at 2 and 2:45 p.m. in room 310 of the Rhoades Science Center at VCSU. Use the north doors of the building. An elevator is available in the new construction area.  The 2 p.m. show will be “Navigating with Lewis and Clark: How did they know where they were when they were in the middle of nowhere?” This program explains how Lewis and Clark used astronomy to navigate and map the Louisiana Purchase to remarkable accuracy. This program, suitable for ages grade four and above, lasts about 40 minutes. The 2:45 p.m. show will be “Finding Polaris II.” It is a sequel to the 2004 show where a student gets a personal guided tour of the night sky by none other than Polaris —The North Star —himself, this time visiting with some of his friends that are the major stars of the springtime sky: Arcturus, Spica, Regulus, Capella, and Thuban.  This show lasts 30 minutes.
Secrets of the Sheyenne will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Valley City National Fish Hatchery. Spend an afternoon with your fourth-, fifth- or sixth-grader discovering the river that runs through Valley City. Learn about where water comes from, where it goes and the creatures that call it home. No charge, but limited to 40 participants. Register at 845-7441. Sponsored by the Great Plains Stem Center, Prairie Waters Center, National Fish Hatchery, Barnes County Wildlife Club and others.

SUNday, October 21
The Valley City VFW will be hosting a Maintenance Breakfast every 3rd Sunday of the Month for the year. Serving will be from 9 a,m.-12:30 p.m. at the VFW - 138 East Main Street, Valley City. 701-845-2764. Everyone welcome, so come one and all!

Monday, October 22
Farmers Market will meet every Monday, 4-6 p.m. at the Rosebud Visitors Center parking lot. For more information contact Norma Voldal at 845-4303.
An On the Move 2013 preview will be held from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. at the Hi-Liner Activity Center lobby. Free smoothie samples will be served.
VCSU Music Department presents Garage Bands at 7:30 p.m. at Vangstad Auditorium.  Admission is free.

Tuesday, October 23
Seventh Annual Rotary Wine social will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Barnes County Museum.  Tickets are $15 each and available from any Rotary member.

Wednesday, October 24
Valley City Barnes County Public Library will host story hour from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the library. There will be a guest speaker.

Thursday, October 25
Zion Free Lutheran Church Fall Auction starting 7:30 p.m. at the Sheyenne Riverbend Farm, 2-1/2 miles south of Valley City on the Kathryn Road. Includes handmade quilts, crafts, and jellies, jams, lefsa and breads. Pie and coffee served.

Friday, October 26
Full Nelson Karaoke, 8:30 p.m. to midnight in the Valley City American Legion Club rooms. Also at the same time on Nov. 16. and Dec. 14. Must be 21 or older to attend. The event supports Legion Baseball.
The eighth annual Ruckus at the Rec will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Rec Center in Valley City. The event, featuring carnival games and prizes, is for boys and girls pre-school through 6th grade. Wear your costumes! Monetary donations are welcome, and volunteers are needed. Call the Rec Center office at 845-3294 for more information.

Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Sanborn, N.D. is holding their annual fall turkey supper with all the trimmings from 4-7 p.m. Bake sale/bazaar, separate tickets for quilt drawing. For more information call 646-6045.

Wednesday, November 7
Valley City Barnes County Public Library will host story hour from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the library. The theme will be “Chocolate Daze.” Kristi Shanenko and eighth graders will be the speakers.

Sunday, November 11
St Pauls Lutheran WELCA Bake/Soup and Sandwich Lunch will be held from 11 a.m to 1:30 p.m. at the Tower City Community Hall, Tower City N.D. A raffle will be held for a handmade quilt and afhgan.

Monday, November 12
The Region VI Parent Resource Center will be holding a divorce education class, “Crossroads of Parenting and Divorce” at Head Start, 101 College St. SW, in Valley City from 6 to 8 p.m.  Class is free and childcare is available. Please call the Barnes County Extension Service at 845-8528 to register.  Class is sponsored by NDSU Extension Service and ND Department of Human Services - Children & Family Services Division.

An On the Move 2013 preview will be held from 12-1 p.m. at the Hi-Liner Activity Center lobby. Free smoothie samples will be served.

Wednesday, November 14

The 9th annual North Dakota State Coin Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Doublewood Inn  (3333 13th Ave. S,  Fargo) The show will feature over 50 dealers showing coins, currency, foreign coins, stamps and tokens.
