Friday, January 11
Full Nelson Karaoke will be held from 8:30 p.m. to midnight in the Valley City American Legion Club rooms. Must be 21 or older to attend. The event supports Legion Baseball.

Saturday, January 12
Grace Free Lutheran Church ManCamp Gun Show, starting at 3 p.m. Join us for conversation and “show & tell” surrounding one of man’s favorite past-times: Firearms. An antique firearm collector will display multiple firearms ranging from the 1880’s to the modern era. Call 845-2753 for more information.
The Valley City monthly bluegrass jam session will be held on Saturday,  Jan. 12 from 1-5 p.m. at the Barnes County Museum.   The acoustic jam is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Barnes County Museum and the Bluegrass Association of North Dakota (B.A.N.D.).  For more information call John Andrus at 701-721-8296.

Monday, January 14
A junior/senior high art show will be held at the cafeteria and the junior high halls at the Valley City Junior Senior High School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, January 16
Story hour will be held at the Valley City-Barnes County Public Library from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Avis Ritcher will be the guest speaker.
A conservation/community fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Valley City Eagles Club in the Riverside Room. Representatives from the Barnes County Soil Conservation District, Barnes County 319 Watershed Project, NRCS (programs, soil health, range), FSA, North Dakota Stockmen’s Association, North Dakota State University Livestock Specialists, Barnes County Rural Water, Pheasants Forever, Barnes County Wildlife Club, North Dakota and United States Fish and Wildlife, Ducks Unlimited, North Dakota Fur Hunters and Trappers, Rural Development, South Central Dakota Regional Council, Central Valley Health, Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce, Sheyenne Valley Growth Alliance, and the Barnes County Housing Authority will be set up to answer all questions. Thursday, January 17
The Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series Season 15 Presents: Dr. Shou-ching Chao (VCSU) “Eye-witnessing modern Chinese culture and change,” at 7 p.m. at the Barnes County Museum. All Lectures are at the Barnes County Historical Society Museum and held in conjunction with Valley City State University.  They are free and open to the public. Friday, January 18
2013 Special Olympics - N.D. State Winter Games, Jan. 18-19, 2013 at the Valley City Recreation Center in Valley City.
Pastor Jim Black, pastor of First Baptist Church of Valley City, spent three weeks in Nigeria and Cameroon, West Africa in November and December 2012. Pastor Black will be showing a one hour video presentation of his trip in the community room in Legacy Place on Friday, Jan. 18 starting at 7 p.m.

Saturday, January 19
2013 Special Olympics - N.D. State Winter Games, Jan. 18-19, 2013 at the Valley City Recreation Center in Valley City.
Barnes County Wildlife Federation is hosting their 30th Annual Lake Ashtabula Fishing Derby at Sibley, N.D. from 12-3 p.m. First, second and third place winners will receive cash and prizes. Registration is in Sibley from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The fifth, seventh, ninth, 11th, and 13th fish registered will receive an ice fishing rod and reel combo. Need not be present for ticket prizes. Must be present for random drawings and fish prizes.
Northern Plains Botanic Garden Society will hold an orchid workshop that will address issues about growing happy and healthy orchid plants. Attendees will learn about the watering, feeding, temperatures and light requirements to grow a stunning orchid plant. Bring in one orchid plant for a hands-on experience in repotting your specimen. The cost is $25 for members and $25 for nonmembers. The meeting will be held at NRI Atrium (700 First Ave. S, Fargo).

Tuesday, January 22
The annual Rotary Pancake Supper will be held at the VFW, 138 East Main Street, Valley City, from 5-7 p.m.

Wednesday, January 23
Saint’s Alive Community Spaghetti Supper will be held at St. Catherine’s Church Hall from 5 p.m-7 p.m.
Story hour will be held at the Valley City-Barnes County Public Library from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Terrie Morris and Brenda Gehlhoff will be the guest speakers.

Wednesday, January 30
There will be no story hour held at the Valley City-Barnes County Public Library.
