Friday, December 14
Full Nelson Karaoke, 8:30 p.m. to midnight in the Valley City American Legion Club rooms. Must be 21 or older to attend. The event supports Legion Baseball.
The Valley City Church of the Nazarene is depicting the Christmas story through a “Journey Through Christmas” drive through Riverview and Hanna Avenue from 7-9 p.m. The Christmas night play is provided by the families of the church. All are welcome.

Saturday, December 15
Dakota Plains Co-op together with the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce will host Santa Day from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Dakota Plains Main Store in Valley City. Kids of all ages are welcome to get their photos taken with Santa, so participants should bring their cameras. At noon, the winners from the Chamber’s button sales will be drawn with the grand prize of an iPad. Winners of the Chamber’s Snowman Contest and Home Decorating Contest and Business Decoration Contest will also be announced.
The Whoever Can Come band will be hosting its Christmas Jam Session at the Barnes County Museum from 1-4 p.m.  It is free and open to all. Bring an instrument and come play along. For more information contact Wes Anderson (701) 845-0966.
Free Public Planetarium shows double feature will be held at 2 and 2:30 p.m. in room 310 of the Rhoades Science Center. “Finding Polaris I” is a 30-minute program that introduces the audience to ancient Greek and Roman mythology told from a stars’ point of view.  We meet Polaris, Betelgeuse, Markab and Vega to hear their stories of Greek and Roman Mythology in the night sky. “Finding Polaris II” is a sequel to the 2004 show where a student gets a personal guided tour of the night sky by none other than Polaris, the North Star, himself, this time visiting with some of his friends that are the major stars of the springtime sky: Arcturus, Spica, Regulus, Capella, and Thuban.  Kids of all ages will get a kick out of this 30-minute show and learn something along the way. Sunday, December 16
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will be hosting a maintenance breakfast every third Sunday of the month for the year. Serving will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the VFW.
Faith Lutheran Church Sunday School Christmas program begins at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend a potluck at 5 p.m. before the program.
Dazey Assembly of God will present its annual Christmas Program on at 6 p.m. The play, “Christmas at the Noisy House” will be presented under the direction of Kelly Beckstrand. There will be recitations and congregational Christmas Carols sung. Marla Petersen will read a Christmas story. Lunch will be served following the program. Everyone is welcome to attend!

Monday, December 17
Valley City Retired Teachers will meet at noon at Sabirs. Speaker will be the Rev. Dan Forsberg of Trinity Lutheran.Remember to bring donation for elementary students.

Wednesday, December 19
Valley City Barnes County Public Library will host story hour from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the library. The theme will be “The Christmas Story.”
Fifth annual “Sounds of the Season” brown bagger series will be held from 12:10 to 12:55 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church sanctuary (138 Third St. N.W., Valley City) Pastor Brad Edin will be the featured performer. The church encourages the public to bring a lunch or just come to listen to the music of the holiday season and enjoy provided refreshments.
Mercy Nurses Alumni will meet noon at Roby’s for lunch.

Friday, December 21
A benefit will be held for the Komrosky family at 5 p.m. at The Eagles Club in Valley City. The benefit will include a freewill spaghetti feed, silent auction and bake sale. Preceding benefit events, the band Thunder Ridge will perform at 8:30 p.m. On Oct. 9, a furnace explosion at Paul Komrosky’s home in Eckelson destroyed everything and sent Paul to the hospital with severe burns to his body. Paul is still recovering from his burn injuries. Jason (Paul’s brother), his wife Laura, and three kids recently moved in with Paul before the fire and lost everything they owned also. All proceeds from the benefit will go to the Komrosky family. An account has been set up at Dacotah Bank in Valley City under Ruth Berg (Paul’s sister). A coin and currency show will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the AmericInn (260 Wintershow Road, Valley City). A local collector will be buying and selling U.S. and Canadian coins and currency, including mint sets, proof sets and starter sets.
