Epworth United Methodist Church Gearing Up for Bazaar

September 24, 2013

B.J. Edwardson, left, and Leona Spitzer spend Monday morning preparing baskets and gift items for the Epworth United Methodist Church's bazaar Oct. 5.

Members of Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City are gearing up for the church's annual bazaar and luncheon early next month.
Church member Helen Noeske said, "Caring and sharing is what life is all about. On Saturday, Oct. 5, share your day by treating someone you care about to a pleasant outing – to savor the October beauty, taste tried and true favorites at the noon luncheon and visit the seven shops of unique, attractive and useful crafts, gift baskets and foods."
The bazaar runs Oct. 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church located at 680 Eighth Avenue Southwest in Valley City. Visitors can park in the spacious west lot and use the west entrance which includes no steps.
This year’s luncheon menu will feature pulled turkey sandwiches, and a choice of Italian chicken florentine or hearty potato soup, which is known to be timeless, Noeske said. Cherry cheese cake and a chocolate zucchini cake are the dessert options. Lemonade and coffee will be served as drinks. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3.50 for youth aged 4-13.
In addition to the luncheon, congregation members are busy creating seven unique shops that will sell homemade baked goods, gift items and crafts, which will support various missions. Shops are The Basket Room, Christmas, In Style, Sweets, Monkey Business, Pumpkin Patch and Sugar and Spice. All items are donated.
"If it is true that your eyes are windows to the soul, you will enjoy a stroll through seven shops at this year’s event," Noeske said. "Take note of items considered shabby sheik, rustic, or heavily distressed by age. Also note soft fleeces and the newest fabrics in the crafts and gifts on display. We have many children’s crafts this year, including some new and a few previously featured. And you will certainly find the ever popular gift baskets."
The luncheon ticket is also the ticket for the drawing of the ultimate gift basket.
Proceeds from the Epworth United Methodist Women bazaar and luncheon will benefit local and beyond missions such as the Youth Ministry, camping scholarships, Women’s Prison Ministry in Jamestown, Valley City Abused Person’s Outreach Center, Hospice, Salvation Army, Beth Cummings Osland's missionary trip to Angola, Africa, Barnes County Food Pantry as well as other national and world missions.
Noeske said, "Come join us. You’ll discover new crafts and old stand-bys, and can spend the day with friends and family. It’s sure to be a wonderful day."
