Elliott, Vikings Trample Trojans

September 16, 2013

(Jake McNeal / Times-Record) VCSU running back Derek Elliott burned Dakota State for 229 total yards and four first-quarter touchdowns in the Vikings' 63-20 NSAA home opener win on Saturday night.

Derek Elliott ran for 266 yards and two scores in a 56-28 loss to Morningside on Sept. 7.

It took him all of 30 seconds to score his first of four first-quarter touchdowns in the Vikings' 63-20 beatdown of NSAA rival Dakota State on Saturday night.

"We knew coming in that our offensive line could create some holes, and we'd have some good running lanes for me and the other running backs," Elliott said. "It just kind of worked out well, that we got some nice holes and we got a few long touchdowns. We knew we had to keep playing our best, even if it wasn't the No. 1 team in the nation, just to test ourselves to see how we do against them, and we came out and played pretty well."
