Eileen M. Kosse

Eileen M. Kosse, age 88, of Valley City, ND formerly of Marion, ND, died Saturday, December 14th at Mercy Hospital in Valley City. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 20th at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home Chapel and one hour before the service at the church on Friday morning. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Marion, ND in the spring.
Eileen Marie Melanson, the daughter of Francis and Blanche (McCleary) Melanson, was born May 29, 1925 on the family farm near Marion, ND. Eileen was the youngest of three children. Eileen attended school at Greenland school and loved to play basketball. She was a member the schools state girls’ basketball championship team. Eileen then attended and graduated from Valley City State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. Eileen taught school for a year before she married William Kosse in 1946 in Marion, ND. The couple lived, farmed and raised their five children. Eileen was a very active member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Marion serving at church functions and singing in church. She was also a past president of the PTA and other civic organizations. Eileen loved to play cards celebrate with her birthday club and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Eileen is survived by her children, Donovan (Linda) Kosse, Valley City, ND, Colette (Ron) Moore, Tucson, AZ, Ellen (Gregg) Kennerly, Atlanta, GA, Mark (Julie) Kosse, Bismarck, ND and Arlene (Scott) Botner, Jamestown, ND; one brother, Lawrence Melanson, Loveland, CO; grandchildren, Amber (Wyatt Sherman) Havard, Valley City, ND, Heather Kosse, Valley City, ND and JoAnn (Corey) Rood Casselton, ND; great-grandchildren, Ciara, John David, Olivia and Milia.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother Donald Melanson.
