Donald E. Clauson

Memorial services for Donald E. Clauson, 61, Lisbon, ND, formerly of Kathryn, ND, will be at the North Dakota Veterans Home, Lisbon, on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. A second service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2012 at Waldheim Lutheran Church, rural Kathryn, with Rev. Bradley Edin officiating. Burial will be in the Waldheim Cemetery with military honors given by Peterson Swenson Post 83, Nome American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard
Visitation will be the hour prior to the service at the church.
Donald Eugene Clauson was born in Valley City, ND on November 18, 1950, the son of Elmer and Myrtis (Mikkelson) Clauson. He grew up in the Kathryn, ND area and attended Lindvold School. In 1969, he graduated from Kathryn High School. Donald went on to further his education in Denver, CO, where he attended an automotive tech school.
He was drafted into the US Army and served in Germany for 2 years and following his discharge, he worked in Kindred and Valley City, ND as a mechanic. He also did some masonry work for Eicholtz Masonry in Fargo, ND. Eventually, Donald returned to Kathryn to farm. Health issues forced him to retire in 2000. On January 17, 2002, he moved to the ND Veteran’s Home in Lisbon, ND.
Donald was a lifetime member of Waldheim Lutheran Church.
Donald died at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND on November 1, 2012. He is survived by his mother, Myrtis Clauson; brother, Kenneth (Sharon) Clauson; and sisters, Janette (Harlan) Hanson and Joyce (Mark) Ertelt all of Kathryn; a brother-in-law, James Cunningham of Thompson, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer; brother, Myron; and sister, MarJean Cunningham.
