County Between Neighboring Events

July 16, 2012

The 29th annual Sodbuster Days was held over the weekend at Sunne Farm in Fort Ransom State Park.

HOPE, N.D. – “Unbelievable,” a woman remarked as she inspected a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 retractable convertible. The car, owned by Earl and Connie Behm of Valley City, was one of several dozen in the classic car show during “Hope Days.”
Over the the weekend the city of Hope celebrated its annual Hope Days and the 2012 Class Bash reunion of students from Hope, Luverne and Pillsbury.
This year’s events included a classic car show, 5K run/walk, demolition derby and a Sunday morning golf tournament.
Barnes County found itself between two annual events over the weekend, with Hope Days north in Steel County, and the Fort Ransom “Sodbuster Days” south in Ransom County.
The 29th annual Sodbuster Days offered a look back into early North Dakota farm life. Held at Sunne Farm in the Fort Ransom State Park, the event had live polka, blacksmith and leather shops, demonstrations of how old farming methods and equipment worked and how other tasks were accomplished during early statehood.
