Community Responds to Fire

January 30, 2014

The interior of the Schonert home which was destroyed by fire Monday. Donations for the family are being accepted at several locations including Bank Forward where an account has been set up.

When the Schonert family of Valley City's house was destroyed by fire Monday, they escaped with only the clothes on their backs. Now the family, which is living temporarily in a Valley City motel, needs the help of the community to recover from the tragedy; and so far the community is responding.

While the family's immediate needs are being met, they still need a place to live and will need to furnish a new home, said Reverend Jim Black of First Baptist Church. They will need everything, said Black, from furnishings to appliances and linens.
Donations in-kind can be taken directly to Black's home at 750 Fourth Street Southwest. Donations can be left on the porch if nobody is home, said Black. For more information, call Black at (701) 840-9902.
A fund for the family is being set up at the Valley City branch of Bank Forward.
