A "What in the world are you reading?" book discussion will be held at 7 p.m. at the Vault, 223 Central Avenue North, Valley City. The discussion is sponsored by "What in the World Is Going On?" a Valley City/Valley City State University organization.

Tuesday, June 30
North Dakota Army National Guard groundbreaking for a new vehicle maintenance shop and vehicle storage facility will be held at 11 a.m. on the Interstate 94 Regional Development Corridor, 2135 Seventh Street Southeast, Valley City.

Wednesday, July 11
Music on the Barnes County Courthouse lawn will feature Mikey Meester and Eric Johnson from Valley City. The program begins at 7:15 p.m. Bring your own lawn chairs. A freewill offering will be taken. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held at the Vault, 223 Central Avenue North, Valley City.

Friday, July 3
The Ashtabula Fireworks Association presents a fireworks show at the Ashtabula Crossing at dusk. The show can be viewed on the shorelines or on the water in a boat.

Saturday, July 4
A 4th of July celebration will be held in Sanborn. The event features a parade, truck pull, demolition derby and fireworks show.

A 4th of July celebration will be held in Fort Ransom. A parade will be held at 11 a.m. on Main Street, line up at the Standing Rock Church parking lot. The annual rodeo will be held at the Fort Ransom Horse Arena at 5 p.m.
