Coghlan finishes at the top of the EDC

Valley City High School senior Jenna Coghlan (above) was the school’s only individual champion at the Eastern Dakota Conference regional meet Saturday in Fargo. Coghlan won the javelin event with a throw of 112 feet, 10 inches, which beat Fargo Davies’ Lexi Klabo by two inches.The Hi-Liners had one new state qualifier at the meet. April Berntson placed fifth in the 1,600 meter run to qualify for state. The girls team finished seventh with 31 points. Other placeers included Jenna Jacob, who took third in the 100 meter dash; Molly Willson, who took seventh in the 100 and Abby Brown, who took seventh in the triple jump. The team also had placers in the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, which took fifth and seventh. The boys team was led by Paul Viland, who took third in the pole vault. The 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams narrowly missed qualifying for state, placing seventh and eighth, respectively.
