Churches, Library Burglarized

October 8, 2013

Several Valley City churches and the library were burglarized over the past several weeks. Here, a break-in attempt at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Valley City was unsuccessful, though the suspects damaged the door frame during the attempt.

Over the past several weeks, several Valley City churches and the Valley City Barnes County Public Library were burglarized with an undisclosed amount of money taken. A break-in attempt was also reported at another church.
Trinity Lutheran Church, and Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the library were all burglarized the weekend of Sept. 28 and 29 and Faith Lutheran Church was burglarized on Oct. 6. A failed break-in attempt was also reported at the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
According to a press release from Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson, "It is believed that the incidents were possibly the work of the same suspect or suspects because of similarities police observed at the scenes. In each case, the suspect or suspects appeared to only be looking for money as other valuables were left behind.
"Evidence was obtained at several of the crime scenes which could be used to connect the suspect(s) with the crimes. In some of the locations, the suspect(s) entered through unsecured doors, while in others they forced their way in.These cases are being investigated and the Valley City Police Department does have information that may lead to the suspect(s).
The VCPD requests that anyone with information about the burglaries call (701) 845-3110.
