Carrington Takes Pizza Corner Crown

(Jake McNeal/Times-Record) Nate Rodriguez pitched six innings on nine runs — only two of which were earned — on nine hits, four walks and nine strikeouts, and batted 2-for-3 with two runs in Sunday’s 8-4 Pizza Corner Classic championship loss to Carrington.

Drew Oberlander’s third-inning single had Valley City Babe Ruth up 3-2 in Sunday’s Pizza Corner Classic championship, but Carrington’s two-run single in the fourth sparked an 8-4 trophy triumph.

“We didn’t play our best baseball and, when you’re playing a good team like Carrington, if you don’t play well, you won’t beat a good team,” Valley City head coach Lance Lukes said. “We made too many mistakes
out there: fielding errors, throwing errors, pitching errors, and Carrington, being the good team they are, took advantage of them.”
