Car Chase Ends in Barnes County

April 28, 2014

Two males fleeing an alleged strong armed robbery in Jamestown were caught in Barnes County Friday after a chase that involved multiple law enforcement agencies.

The chase began in Jamestown after the pair, a 37-year-old man and a juvenile, reportedly knocked a woman down in the Perkins parking lot and stole her purse at about 6 p.m. A nearby citizen followed the suspects' vehicle from the parking lot and gave dispatchers a license number, according to Jamestown Police Sgt. Thomas Nagel.

Jamestown Police, the Stutsman County Sheriff's Office and the North Dakota Highway Patrol chased the suspects onto I-94 eastbound where Barnes County Sheriff's Deputies picked up the chase in Barnes County.

The suspect changed direction near the Eckelson exit then turned north on Barnes County Road 7 and continued north through Eckelson on a gravel road where the driver was able to put some distance between himself and law enforcement, according to Barnes County Sheriff's Deputy Dan Anderson.

Deputies searching for the vehicle were alerted by a person hunting geese in the area. The suspects' vehicle was stuck in a slough and the suspects fled on foot. They were captured by Barnes County Sheriff's Deputies.

The pair face charges for the robbery and weapons charges after law enforcement recovered two handguns from the vehicle, said Nagel. The pair also face numerous charges from various agencies.

The adult male is held in the Stutsman County Jail while the juvenile is held in the Cass County Jail.
