Brett Loeks

Brett Loeks, 41, died in a tragic fire at his home in Barnesville, Minn. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Barnesville, with the Rev. Colin Grangaard officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Barnesville, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services on Friday.
Brett Alan Loeks was born on June 16, 1972, to Donald Albert and Fayette Pamela (Lueck) Loeks in Bismarck. Brett was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Breckenridge, Minn. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Steele. Brett grew up and attended school in Steele, graduating in 1991. While in high school he played baseball and football.
On July 10, 1993, Brett was united in marriage to Kristy Dawn Miller, Bismarck. He started working at the family video store during high school. He lived in Bismarck after graduating, moved to Wahpeton in 1993, Fargo in 1995, Barnesville in 2008 where he currently was living with his wife and children. He later managed two stores and owned a third from 1998 until 2013. In 2008, he and a partner started a construction business called L & F Construction and was currently running that business.
Brett had a lot of pride in his boys, Cole and Connor, and their activities. He loved watching his son play football. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He treasured fishing trips with his dad and siblings to Canada. He loved to be at his mom and dad’s lake cabin with family. Many special memories have been made at the cabin including water skiing, fireworks, and games. Every 4th of July he was in charge of the walleye fish fry. Brett was a handyman, and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. Brett also enjoyed socializing with his friends and neighbors. He was forever helping people, fixing whatever needed to be fixed, pushing snow, and doing what he could to lend a hand.
Brett is survived by his wife, Kristy; two sons, Cole and Connor, both at home; his parents, Don and Faye Loeks, Steele; three siblings, David (Nina) Loeks, Lincoln, Corey (Bonnie) Loeks, LaMoure, and Tavi Knutson, Bismarck; his parents-in-law, Greg and Roxy Miller, Tuttle; one brother-in-law, Jason (Nadine) Miller, Plymouth, Minn.; his nephews and nieces, Austin Loeks (Blaine Johanneson), Eryn (Matt) Iafrate, Ethan (Sarah) Loeks, Kyah Loeks, Izak Loeks, Riley Loeks, Casey Loeks, Jaden Knutson, Eleanor Miller and Amelia Miller; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Tristan, Taylor, Jude, Emma and Abigail; and several aunts and uncles, other relatives and friends.
Brett was preceded in death by his grandparents, Francis and Mattie Erbes, and Earl and Pearl Lueck.
