BREAKING: Sadek died from Bullet Wound to Head

August 23, 2014

Andrew Sadek died as a result of a gunshot wound to his head, according to autopsy results released to the North Dakota State College Science Police Department Saturday. According to Mark A. Koponen, M.D. medical examiner, the manner of death has been ruled as undetermined. A toxicology drug screen was negative.

Sadek, a 20-year-old student at NDSCS who hailed from the Valley City area, was last seen leaving Nordgaard Hall on the Wahpeton campus around 2 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014. He was reported missing the following day. The NDSCS Campus Police Department, in close cooperation with area law enforcement agencies and fire departments, conducted an extensive ground, air and water search for Sadek in the weeks that followed. On June 27, 2014, Sadek’s body was recovered from the Red River near Breckenridge, Minn.

Because the manner of death has been ruled as undetermined, the Sadek case will continue to be handled as an open investigation, and an ongoing search for the weapon continues. Based upon the facts of this case, Campus Police believe there is no threat to the campus community or the public.
