BREAKING: Elderly Pedestrian Stuck by Truck in VC

June 23, 2014

Neither alcohol nor speed were considered to be factors when a 92-year-old Valley City pedestrian was injured Sunday after being hit by a pickup.
Rita Weber was struck by the Ford F150 while she was in a crosswalk of Central Avenue North and Sixth Street Northwest in Valley City at about 6:20 p.m.

Weber was walking south on Central Avenue North and was crossing Sixth Street Northwest when she was struck, according to Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson. For reasons unknown, the driver of the pickup failed to see the Weber in the crosswalk.

Weber was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital for her injuries and was later transported by Life Flight to Sanford Hospital in Fargo. Her condition is unknown.

The driver of the pickup was issued a citation for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and released.

This investigation is ongoing and the VCPD is requesting that anyone with any information on this case contact (701) 845-3110.
