North Dakota's own hip hop rising star Big Reeno recently released the official music video for his new, heartfelt single, The Forgotten Disaster, (view video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2I4oV4sbpooff) his untitled, upcoming project releasing early next year. The song was made to commemorate the first anniversary of the national disaster that occurred in Reeno’s home state of North Dakota in June, 2011. A flood hit the city of Minot, destroying people’s homes, businesses and lives. It was the only category 5 disaster in the US in 2011.
Since making a serious effort at a music career in 2008, the Valley City State University alumnus has toured the country and shared his talents to arena-filled crowds with big name headliners including Nelly, Flo Rida, Tech N9ne, 3oh!3 and T-Pain.
Reeno attended VCSU from 2006 until he graduated in 2010 with a degree in business administration. He put a heavy focus on music in 2008 under the assumption that if the music career didn’t work out, he’d have his degree and find a normal job.
While on tour with hip hop artist Tech N9ne and Machine Gun Kelly early this year, they made a stop to perform a show in Minot, and Reeno was shocked to find that all was still not well with the city. “I couldn’t believe what I saw while I was down there” said Reeno. “I thought things were back to normal. That’s how the media made it seem.”
Once he got off the road, Reeno took it upon himself to bring attention to the plight & struggles of the people of Minot. He recorded the song The Forgotten Disaster and teamed up with Video Director Matt Philipenko of BlindSpot Production to shoot a compelling video to create awareness about this issue and to bring the world back to Minot.
The Forgotten Disaster single is now available on itunes, with proceeds from the sale of the single going to Hope Village. N.D. Hope Village is a non-profit organization helping Minot flood victims rebuild their lives.
