Betty Lou (Higginbotham) McKay Carter

Betty Lou McKay Carter, age 91, of Breckenridge, MN formerly of Valley City, ND, died Monday, January 13th at St. Francis Medical Center, Breckenridge, MN. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 20th at Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Monday afternoon. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodbine Cemetery in the spring.
Betty Lou Higginbotham, the daughter of Albert and Marie (Metcalf) Higginbotham, was born July 15, 1922 in Valley City, ND. Betty grew up and completed her education in Jamestown schools. After receiving her education, she then worked as a secretary and accountant in Valley City. On October 3, 1946 she married Lyle (Tobe) McKay in Thompson Falls, MT. Betty and Lyle then lived and worked in Valley City where Betty worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for Ritchie School and later the Valley City Country Club. Mr. McKay died on December 23, 1984. In 1987, she married Robert Carter in Valley City. Betty was a very active member at Epworth United Methodist Church and the Valley City Country Club. Betty loved to go out for lunch and coffee with her family and friends, working on crossword puzzles, solitaire and playing bridge.
Betty is survived by her daughter-in-law, Julie McKay, Wahpeton, ND; her grandchildren, Sarah (Wyatt) Tulp, Neil McKay and Amanda (Nick) Nielsen, all Valley City, ND; two great grandchildren, Noah and Paige Tulp.
Betty was preceded in death by her husbands’ Lyle McKay and Robert Carter, her son Kevin McKay and her brothers, Robert and John Higginbotham.
