Barnes Rural Water gets $4.5 Million

October 9, 2013

Barnes Rural Water was awarded a grant of $4.5 million from the Water Resources Trust Fund for local projects.
Of that, $3.3 million will go toward connecting new customers within the Barnes Rural Water district, which covers and area from Tower City to Spiritwood and from Sutton to Verona, according to Barnes Rural Water Manager Perry Kapaun.
The cost to lay pipe to connect new customers is $25,000 to $30,000 per mile, said Kapaun. Grant money will be used to offset the cost to provide rural residents with an alternative to well water.
