The Barnes County North girls basketball may have lost 61-41 to Northern Cass in the third place game of the Barnes County Tournament, but coach Randy Hooey felt looks could be deceiving.
"This was not a 20 point game, at all," he said. "It was a lot better game than that."
Early, the Bison held their own and even had an 11-2 lead midway through the first quarter.
The rest of the half, the two teams went back and forth, with Northern Cass going on a run and BCN catching up. In the final two minutes, BCN's Calby Hanson had five points to narrow the Jaguars' lead to 28-25 by halftime.
In the second half, BCN had trouble getting shots to fall and Northern Cass went on a 20-5 run fueled by accurate 3-point shooting, and led 49-34 after the quarter.
Bree Olson and Whitney Ward led NC with 12 points each and Carley Ward had 10 points.
BCN was led by Emily Albrecht with 13 points.
Enderlin controlled the ball and had little problem beating Griggs County Central 46-28 for 5th place.
Enderlin led 17-8 after the first quarter, kept at it the rest of the game. The Eagles led 28-14 at halftime and went up 44-14 in the third quarter.
Defensively, the Eagles didn't allow Griggs County to make a second-half shot until a minute into the fourth quarter.
Megan Johnson led Enderlin with 17 points, and Hayleigh Scott and Krista Thielges had 10.
Alexis Savre and Devon Urness led GCC with 8 points each.
The Litchville-Marion/Montpelier basketball team ended its tournament on an up note, with a 58-52 win over Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page for seventh place.
It was the team's second win of the year.
"Friday we started to show some things and then tonight we came out and played real well at the beginning," said LMM coach Dave Handt.
LMM had an 18-point first quarter, but struggled in the second and allowed FSHP to tie it 22-22 by halftime.
The Rebels then had a 19-point third quarter and came through with free throws at the end to finish the game.
Cassandra Fick led LMM with 17 points and Tasha Piehl had 13.
Madison Koenig led FS/HP with 16 points.
