Several dozen turned out for the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Tea Banquet at the Sheyenne Care Center on Thursday.

The annual event sponsored by the Mercy Healthcare Foundation, Faith in Action of Mercy Hospital and the Sheyenne Care Center honors the valiant efforts, both big and small, of the many healthcare volunteers in the area who work hard just to make another’s life a little better.

“There is no greater gift that anyone can give, than to give of your life and your time,” said Mercy Hospital Director Keith Heuser who spoke briefly to the banquet crowd.

“More than that - and what impresses me the most of why volunteerism is so important - whether you say it physically or verbally, by volunteering for an organization, regardless of what that organization is, you are saying that organization is so important to you, that you are going to give of your talents and time. To me, that is an awesome expression,“ Heuser said.

Sheyenne Care Center Craig Christianson said life in a nursing home is not always easy, and volunteers help make the transition go as smoothly as possible.

“Your time spent with residents at Sheyenne Care Center is recognized greatly, and greatly appreciated by everyone,” Christianson said.
“It is truly your heart that you give from.”

The event, held to coincide with National Volunteer Week, featured a catered meal of finger sandwiches and deserts, as well as musical performances by Valley City High School student singers Beth Berntson and Sadie Oberlander, along with Dianna Van Bruggen accompanying on piano.
