APOC Fundraiser Today

September 6, 2013

The Abused Persons Outreach Center is holding a fundraiser today at the Valley City VFW from 4 to 8 p.m.
The event will feature a chicken and roast beef meal and a silent auction with over 175 baskets and other items donated by area businesses and organizations.
APOC is a non-profit organization that provides free assistance to anyone facing domestic violence or sexual abuse. APOC provides anyone facing abuse a 24-hour crisis hotline, shelter, advocacy, protection order assistance and a victim's witness advocate in the state's attorney's office. In addition, APOC provides an advocate at Valley City State University and education for the public including anti-bullying education for children.
According to Virginia Svenningsen, APOC director, this fundraiser is the organization's primary source of funding. Last year, the group raised over $8,000; this year the group hopes to raise more as some federal funding is down and the rent went up.
For $8, the community can enjoy a delicious meal or take part in a fundraiser that includes wonderful basket. Walk-ins are awesome, Svenningsen said.
