Annual Sibley Days to be Held All Day Saturday

June 26, 2012

The Northern Town Band will play at The Fishtank in Sibley Saturday night

The normally small and quaint lakeside town of Sibley will be busier with locals participating in games and activities Saturday during Sibley Days. Ruth Eberle, who helps coordinate the event, said she hopes everyone can make it for a day of family fun.

The annual event, which will take place at the Sibley crossing, will begin at 10 a.m. with a craft and flea market outside The Fishtank, a bar and restaurant in Sibley. Eberle said anyone can participate in the market.

“You can show up that morning and that’s just fine,” she said. “You don’t have to register.”

Tables will not be provided, so participants should bring their own. In the event of inclement weather, the market will be moved inside.

Children won’t have to go far to participate in a fishing derby in Lake Ashtabula, which surrounds the town of Sibley. The derby will begin at 11 a.m. for children up to age 12, and prizes will be awarded.

Kids will get a chance to show off their bicycles during the parade at 2 p.m. The parade will also feature decorated golf carts as well as a regular parade with floats from local resident and businesses. Eberle said parade entires will be taken until Saturday, but they should be ready to line up around 1 p.m.

The afternoon will be filled with games. Kids games, such as a three-legged race and jump roping, will be held at 3 p.m. on the beach, and a game of bingo will begin at 4 p.m. in the back room of The Fishtank.
Another exciting event will be the Minute to Win It games for all ages beginning at 7 p.m. The games are based on popular primetime TV show, Minute To Win It, where contestants have a minute to engage in contests using everyday items.

The night will finish with a dance at The Fishtank featuring Northern Town Band. Attendants to the dance must be 21 years of age or older.
Eberle said the all-day event is always held the last Saturday in June, and the next big event for Sibley is the Sodbuster’s Bull-a-Rama held Labor Day weekend.
