Fall sports first practice information
With the school year approaching, Valley City Junior/Senior High School's fall athletic teams will soon have their first official practices of the fall season. The complete list of practice dates and picture dates are below.
The school is also hosting a parent meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Hi-Liner Activity Center for all athletes and parents in grades 9-12. Team meetings will directly follow the general meeting.
Cross Country (Grades 7-12)
First Practice- 8 a.m. Aug. 13 at Hanna Field.

VCHS Booster Club Registration Coming Up
The Valley City Hi-Liner Athletic Booster Club will be welcoming new and renewed memberships during school registration days.¬† Registration takes place at all Valley City Public Schools on August 16th and 17th from 9:00 a.m. ‚Äď 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. ‚Äď 6:00 p.m.
The Hi-Liner Booster Club is a voluntary organization whose main purpose is to support Hi-Liner athletic teams, interscholastic athletics (and activities), to promote a healthy environment, and attitudes for our youth.
Membership is a $25 donation. Participation in projects such as bingo and concession sales is optional.  Additional information can be found at www.hilinerboosters.org.
Registration will also take place during the first home football and volleyball events and through the mail.

Grafton Beats Wahpeton for State Title
Grafton Post 41 beat Wahpeton Post 20 4-1 in eight innings Sunday in the American Legion Class B state championship game.
Wahpeton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, which was tied by Grafton in the fourth. Grafton then scored three runs in the top of the 8th. Wahpeton was limited to one hit in the game by Grafton's Jamie Villarreal, who was named the tournament MVP.
West Fargo won the Class A legion title with an 11-8 win over Fargo Post 2 Sunday. West Fargo's Andy Young was named the tournament MVP

NCAA approves full D1 membership for UND
The University of North Dakota announced Friday that it has been elected to full Division I active membership status from the National Collegiate Athletic Association, officially completing UND’s transition from Division II. UND President Dr. Robert Kelley received a letter from the NCAA confirming the University’s active membership in D-1 athletics.
With the five-year reclassification process to Division I (Football Championship Subdivision) now complete, UND is eligible to participate in Division I postseason competition beginning this fall.
‚ÄúThe University has been waiting for formal notification of its successful completion of the NCAA D-1 transition process. That notification arrived today,‚ÄĚ Kelley said.¬†‚ÄúThis completes a significant milestone in the long tradition of UND athletics. The announcement signals a great deal of coming excitement as UND‚Äôs teams compete in Big Sky Conference D-1 competition."
