Softball team raising money for nationals
The Valley City Xtreme 16U girls softball team is hosting a fundraiser Wednesday to help raise money for its trip to the national tournament next month.
The team is hosting a brat feed Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Valley Meat with proceeds going to the team.
The tournament takes place July 31-Aug.5 in Columbus, Wis.

Section 1 American Legion Bracket announced
The complete bracket for the Section 1 American Legion baseball tournament has been announced.
The double-elimination tournament runs from Tuesday until Saturday in Lidgerwood.
The first round starts at noon Tuesday when top-seeded Wahpeton plays Galchutt in game one, which is followed by Harwood vs. Fairmount/Hankinson in game two at 2:30 p.m.
Game three, set for a 5 p.m. start features Kindred and Great Bend. The night concludes with game four, Valley City Post 60 against Lidgerwood.
Wednesday starts with elimination games between the losers of games one and two at noon, which is followed by the losers of games three and four at 2:30 p.m. The winners of games one and two play at 5 p.m., followed by the winners of three and four at 7:30 p.m.

Fall sports first practice information
With the school year approaching, Valley City Junior/Senior High School's fall athletic teams will soon have their first official practices of the fall season. The complete list of practice dates and picture dates are below.
The school is also hosting a parent meeting at 7:30 p.m. August 7 in the Hi-Liner Activity Center for all athletes and parents in grades 9-12. Team meetings will directly follow the general meeting.

Summit League Announces 2012-13 Championship Schedule
ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League announced dates and hosts for all 19 of its sport championships in 2012-13 after approval at the league's June President's Council meeting.
Headlining the schedule is The Summit League Basketball Championships, which will be held in Sioux Falls, S.D., for a record fifth consecutive year. The Sioux Falls Sports Authority will also host the 2014 championships at the Sioux Falls Arena, marking the first time that six tournaments in a row will be played at the same location.
The first six championships of 2012-13 will be hosted by six different league institutions and a total of seven different schools will serve as championship hosts during the year.
 
Oakland is set to host a league-high three championships in 2012-13, beginning with cross country in October and men’s and women’s swimming & diving in February. The school will host the league’s first and last championships of the 2012-13 season, culminating with baseball in May. The 2013 Baseball Championship will mark the sport’s initial league tournament hosted by the Golden Grizzlies.
Fort Wayne, North Dakota State and South Dakota State will each host a pair of Summit League championships. IPFW will host both men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field within a three-week span. North Dakota State will serve as the site for volleyball for the third time in four years and softball for the second time in four seasons. South Dakota State will host women’s soccer for the third time in four years and also co-hosts the men’s and women’s golf championships with The Summit League.
The University of South Dakota hosts its first Summit League Championship when the Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships are contested at the DakotaDome, Feb. 24-25.
