VCHS golfers in hunt at state
Valley City High School boys golf team had players finish the first day of the state championship in the hunt for a placing score.
Nick Jenson leads the Hi-Liners with an 82, which is tied for 17th. The score is only four strokes off the top-5.
Ben Sorenson had an 83, which ties him for 23rd. Jared Lentz finished the day with an 84 and is tied for 31st.
The tournament wraps up today in Dickinson.
Legion team drops first four
The Valley City Post 60 American Legion baseball team opened the season with four straight losses.
Valley City lost 14-6 and 10-0 last week in Thompson and were swept 14-5 and 9-8 Monday in Enderlin.
The team opens its home season Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Great Bend.

Deigel named to All-EDC team
Valley City High School sophomore Dierra Diegel was the only Hi-Liner named to the All-Eastern Dakota Conference team.
The team included five players from West Fargo and four from Fargo North.
West Fargoâ€™s Sydney Greenlund was named Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year and Fargo Northâ€™s Aaron Kliniske was named Coach of the Year.
The Hi-Liners finished 14-12 overall and finished fifth in the EDC.
No Valley City players were named to the All-EDC team in baseball.
West Fargoâ€™s Andy Young was named Senior Athlete of the Year and Fargo Northâ€™s Jeff Fiechtner was named Coach of the Year.
Special Olympics golf benefit Friday in Valley City
Valley City Special Olympics and Dacotah Bank of Valley City are holding a golf benefit Friday at the Valley City Town and Country Club.
The 18 hole, four-person scramble has an entry fee of $75 per golfer, which includes a supper buffet and prizes. Registration starts at 10:15 that morning with a shot gun start at 11 a.m. Registration forms are available at the Town and Country Club.
