4 Vikings named to All-DAC softball team

The Valley City State University softball team finished the season with the second highest win total in program history, and Wednesday, some of the team’s key players received individual recognition for their efforts throughout the year.
VCSU seniors Katie McBride, Jane Pettit and Cyndi Figol, along with junior Adrianna Boychuk, were named to the Dakota Athletic Conference All-Conference team.
McBride, a pitcher from Grand Rapids, Minn., led the DAC with 16 wins, the second highest for a Viking pitcher since 2006. McBride pitched 203.2 innings in the season and gave up less than one hit an inning, striking out 143 opponents while surrendering only 43 walks. She allowed only 53 earned runs on the season for a 1.82 ERA.
Pettit, a third baseman from Rushford, Minn., started all 46 games for the Vikings in 2012. She had a career high batting average of .439, which led the Vikings. Pettit also led the team in runs scored (30), hits (58), doubles (13), home runs (5) and was tied for the lead in RBI with 30. Pettit also had an on base percentage of .513, helped by 18 walks. She had only nine strikeouts all season.
Figol, a second baseman from Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, started all 46 games for the Vikings. After a slow start, Figol hit .404 after spring break to finish the season with a .357 batting average. She scored 22 runs and finished tied for second on the team with 51 hits. Figol also was second on the team with nine doubles and third in RBI with 28. She was also threat on the bases, swiping a perfect seven for seven on the year.
Boychuk, a shortstop from Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Canada, was the lone non-senior of the Vikings to make the All Conference Team. She was second on the team in hitting with a .381 batting average and was tied for second on the team with 51 hits on the season. Boychuk scored 25 runs, collected six doubles and two triples and 19 RBI. She was also 11-12 in stolen bases for the season.
