20 Hi-Liner Track & Field Personal Records at Packer Invite

Hi-Liner track and field set 20 new personal bests and placed in three events at Friday’s Packer Relays Invitational in West Fargo.

“It was a good meet for a lot of kids,” Valley City head coach Trevor Bakalar said. “I knew we had a few [personal bests], but I didn’t think so many. The older kids were gone for the New York Trip, so we went with sophomores and juniors. It’s a real indication of where we may fit for Regionals [May 17 at Cushman Field in Grand Forks, N.D.]: where can we get personal bests, where can they best qualify, and where can they help us out the most?”

Sophomore John Halgrimson took fourth with a personal-best 11.56 seconds for five points in the 100-meter Dash, then finished fourth at a personal-record 23.43 seconds for five points in the 200-meter Dash.

Sophomore Gabe Brown set his new best 100-meter Dash time at 12.34 seconds for 21st, then took 22nd in the 200-meter Dash with a new personal record of 25.20 seconds.

Sophomore Erik Milender also set a new personal best in the 100-meter Dash at 12.67 seconds for 26th.

Sophomore Jessica Ronning’s 800-meter Run time of 2:57.90 was a new personal record but was just short of qualifying for the Final.

Grace Ihry’s Long Jump mark of 14 feet, 5.5 inches was a new personal best that won her 28th, and her 31-foot, 10-inch Triple Jump total was a personal record that tied for 19th.

Sophomore Laura Thoreson’s 69-foot, 6-inch Discus Throw mark was a personal best that earned her 38th.

Freshman Miranda Wittenberg’s 56 feet in the Javelin Throw was a new personal mark for 41st.
