VCSU Men Put Up 111 points in Win

January 28, 2013

Since coach Jeff Kaminsky took charge of the Valley City State University mens basketball team in 2005, the Vikings have prided themselves on defense.
While the defense was plentiful Saturday at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse, it was the offense that never seemed to rest as the No. 24 Vikings had a 111-61 win over Oglala Lakota (S.D.) College.
It was the highest-scoring game the Vikings have had since a 99-56 home win against Trinity Bible College last season and the first time the Vikings have broken the 100-point mark since the 2004-2005 season-opener.

Maple Valley girls beat Oak Grove

January 28, 2013

TOWER CITY — It may be almost February, but the Maple Valley girls basketball hasn't had much of a chance to see teams from its district.
Friday in Tower City, the No. 4 Raiders got a reminder of the challenge ahead in a 70-51 win over Oak Grove.
Despite leading by at least nine points at the end of each of the three quarters, the Raiders got little breathing room as the Grovers constantly worked to narrow the lead, which resulted in one tie in the third quarter, but no lead changes.

Hi-Lites Hope For Another Strong State Performance

January 25, 2013

When the Valley City High School Hi-Lites dance team readies a routine for state, the end result is usually a product of months of works.
Months of dancing in Valley City's Studio 29 and the Hi-Liner Activity Center. Months of watching tape, looking for the little details. Months of competition, where crucial feedback is given.
But when the Hi-Lites perform their hip hop routine Saturday at the second day of the North Dakota Association of Dance and Drill's State Championships, it will be the first time the routine is done for judging, the results of a late-season audible.

Nudell's 31 Helps MV Get 2nd Straight BCT Title

January 20, 2013

As far as Maple Valley High School coach Jeff Miller is concerned, there are few post players with the offensive skill set of Rylee Nudell.
"When she gets the ball facing the basket, there are not too many people out there who can stop her," Miller said about the freshman, who scored her 1,000th point earlier this month. "She's got an extremely explosive first step, so she can get by that one defender, and if that help-side defense isn't there right away, and even if it is there, she can maneuver herself around them to make the layup, and a lot of times get fouled in the process."
