Pingree-Buchanon Beats Litchville-Marion/Montpelier

Litchville-Marion Montpelier (0-2 overall) hosted Pingree-Buchanon (1-0 District 5) for P-B's first match of the season on Tuesday night.

Pingree-Buchanon kept their season rolling with a hard-fought 3-1 (25-22, 25-12, 25-21) District 5 road win.

P-B's Jordan Thomas scooped 13 digs, Megan Thomas 12. Thomas connected on four aces and Lindsey Saxberg four more. Saxberg piled up 12 assists, Jordan Thomas also elevated for two blocks and 12 kills. Morgan Thomas punished LMM with seven more.

Junior Viking Club Returns

Valley City State University is pleased to once again offer the Junior Viking Club for fans in the 6th grade or younger.

Junior Vikings receive numerous benefits including free admission to all VCSU home athletic events in 2013-14, an official club T-Shirt, and opportunities to meet Viking players and be introduced at select home games.

The cost to join the Junior Viking Club is $35. Enrollment forms can be obtained by contacting the VCSU athletic office at 701-845-7160 or by logging on to vikings.vcsu.edu.

Valley City Natives Crowned Horseshoe Champions

Wilbur Gabel and his grandsons Noah and Cameron Gabel, all from Valley City, competed in the North Dakota State Horseshoe Singles and the State Horseshoe Doubles competitions over the last two weekends in Fargo and Jamestown.

Wilbur took home the Elders Singles Title for the second year in a row. Noah brought home the Cadet Singles Championship for the third time, while Cameron placed third in State Singles Junior division.

Last Chance to Register for Kroll's Bismarck Marathon

Runners interested in participating in the 2013 Kroll’s Diner Bismarck Marathon or 5k and 10k races have just two days left to sign up. Online registration ends midnight Friday, Sept. 13. Runners can register at bismarckmarathon.com to participate in the upcoming event.

The Kroll’s Diner Bismarck Marathon is Saturday, Sept. 21 at Cottonwood Park in Bismarck. The 26.2-mile course is a two-loop format that begins in Cottonwood Park and runs around the University of Mary campus.

Loboes Serve Rebels

LaMoure volleyball (1-0 overall) defeated Edgeley-Kulm (0-1 Class District 5, 0-1), 3-0 (25-9, 25-8, 25-14), on Tuesday night.

LaMoure's Jade Wagner racked up six aces, Anna Holen four, Abby Warcken four and Courtney Carlson two more.

Wagner supplied 16 assists, Jackie Meiklejohn 15 of her own.

Talitha Hirschkorn registered four blocks, Kennedy Witt two and Siri Armitage one.

Warcken hustled for 23 digs, Carlson 17 and Holen 11.

Carlson punished the Rebels for 11 kills, Holen eight, Hirschkorn seven and Armitage four.

LaMoure's B and C Teams also won, 2-0 each.

Valley City Thunder Football starts its 13th season in 2013.

“When we first started this program, our goal was to make the Thunder Football program a strong and rich tradition in youth football," said Thunder Football Director Mike Lentz. "Thirteen years later, our numbers are great, the excitement is there and the support from the community is overwhelming."

Ost Co-Golfer of the Week

Shane Ost of Valley City State and Kameron Hunter of Jamestown were named the first Co-North Star Athletic Association Men’s Golfers of the Week, the NSAA announced Monday.

Ost continued his hot start to the fall golf season with an even-par 72 and a first-place finish in the Bismarck State Mystics Invitational on Sept. 3. Ost’s big day paced the Viking men’s golf team to a score of 307 and a first-place finish at the six-team meet.
