Viking Baseball Weekenders Moved to Sunday, Monday

April 4, 2014

Valley City State baseball’s Saturday and Sunday doubleheaders at Jamestown have been moved to Sunday and Monday in Fargo and Moorhead, Minn.

VCSU and Jamestown enter a Sunday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Fargo South’s Bennett Elementary Field.

Monday’s doubleheader begins at 11:30 a.m. at Concordia College in Moorhead.

Weather and field conditions may further alter this weekend’s schedule.

Weather Tees off on VCSU Golf Schedule

Valley City State golf was scheduled to play at Dickinson this weekend and in Jamestown next weekend until Monday night’s flash blizzard delayed both invites.

As a result, Dickinson State will host a one-day meet on April 13, and Jamestown will host their meet April 21 and 22 at the Jamestown Country Club.

Valley City Express Wrestling Takes North Dakota State Folkstyle Small Team Points Championship

April 4, 2014

Valley City Express wrestling featured 27 competitors at March 29’s USA Wrestling State Folkstyle Tournament in Bismarck, of whom 17 placed as Express was crowned North Dakota State Folkstyle Small Team points champions.

Small Teams are clubs with 30 or fewer wrestlers.

“By our calculations, this was the most wrestlers we have ever had participate in the end-of-the-year State Tournament,” Express coach Aaron Larson said.

Viking Football Lands 4 New Recruits

Valley City State head football coach Dennis McCulloch announced
on Tuesday the addition of four more student-athletes.

Quarterback Kiefer Langan from St. John, N.D., linebacker Isaac Yturralde from El Paso, Texas, linebacker Chanzce Jones from Houston, Texas and projected wide receiver Antoine Griffin from Patrick AFB, Fla. have signed Letters of Intent to attend VCSU and play football for the Vikings this fall.

Valley City State sophomore right fielder Brady Anderson is the NAIA Baseball National Player of the Week, the NAIA announced Tuesday.

Hi-Liner Softball Heats Up in Bismarck

April 1, 2014

Hi-Liner softball debuted with 7-3 and 18-15 wins in 59-degree weather at Bismarck on Saturday before Monday’s blizzard froze the schedule for at least the next week.

“Both teams looked better at the plate as both also started their No. 2 pitchers, so the hitters had a little better luck although the defenses looked like it might have been their first games as errors were easy to come by,” said Hi-Liner head coach Jason Lindgren of the later game that featured eight errors from either side.
