Lady Hi-Liners Fall at Fargo North

Lady Hi-Liner basketball led 35-29 at halftime of Friday’s Eastern Dakota Conference game at Fargo North but came up short, 61-56, as their eight-game win streak dating back to Jan. 9 came to an end.

14 Hi-Liner Wrestlers Make State

Class A No. 1 182-pound Hi-Liner senior Zach Doty and 220-pound sophomore third-ranked Jordan Magnuson won titles in Saturday’s Eastern Dakota Conference Regional Tournament at Fargo Davies as 14 total Valley City wrestlers qualified for Feb. 13-15’s Class A State Tournament at the Bismarck Civic Center.

22 New VCSU Football Signees

Valley City State University Head Football Coach Dennis McCulloch announced Wednesday the addition of 22 student-athletes who have signed letters of intent to attend VCSU and play football for the Vikings this fall.

"We are extremely excited about this group of incoming student-athletes," McCulloch said. "We have a good mix of playmakers on both offense and defense joining our program. These young men have proven themselves at the high school level, and we're excited to see them excel at the collegiate level over the next four years, both in the classroom and on the field."

Duske Named 5th NSAA Player of the Week

Valley City State’s Aaron Duske is the fifth North Star Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the NSAA announced Monday.

Duske, the 6-foot-4 senior guard from Buffalo Minn., averaged 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, 1.5 blocks and .5 steals per game as VCSU split a pair of NSAA conference home games with a 71-69 loss to rival Jamestown on Jan. 29 and an 88-63 win over Dakota State on Saturday.

Taylor, Lindgren, Berg and Meyer Sign

Valley City High School seniors Madison Taylor, Dustin Lindgren, Austin Berg and Austen Meyer appeared at the Hi-Liner Activity Center Wednesday afternoon, in honor of National Signing Day, to finalize their collegiate letters of intent.

Taylor, an outside hitter, will attend and play volleyball for Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, N.D. Lindgren, a fullback/linebacker, signed with Valley City State football, pitchers Berg and Meyer with Viking baseball.

Lady Hi-Liners Wrangle Red River

Grand Forks Red River gave Valley City all they could handle Tuesday night as they dominated the rebound game and built a 30-23 halftime lead, but five Hi-Liners stepped up to score in double figures and Valley City took a 50-49 lead with two minutes remaining en route to a 54-53 win.

VCSU Fish Fry Coming Feb. 26

The Valley City State University Booster Club will host the first Viking Fish Fry on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Valley City VFW Club.

Tickets are $15 and include a meal, which starts at 5:30 p.m., of fish and fixin’s, along with entry for door prizes. All proceeds go to VCSU athletic scholarships.

Only 300 tickets will be sold. Contact a VCSU Booster Club member or call 845-7161 to purchase your tickets. The Fish Fry replaces the annual Wild Game Feed hosted in previous years.
