Hi-Liner/Bison Varsity Bowling 2-1 in Hannaford

Varsity, starring Austin Lura, Collin Lura, Drew Oberlander, Levi Nix and Matthew Lyter, drew Griggs County in Saturday’s first match, winning 5-0. Levi Nix finished at four strikes, four spares and two errors and a team-high 80 percent.

Taking on the West Fargo Stars in Match 2, Valley City won, 3-2, in alternating games.

Wendel, Schueneman 2nd in Courts Plus Doubles

Maia Wendel fell, 6-2, 6-0, to Christine Sayler in 18U Singles on Friday, Saturday and Sunday's tournament.

Evan Haglund fell, 6-3, 6-1, to Samuel Rath and to Adam Durrani, 6-2, 6-4, in 14U Singles.

Wendel (left) and Rachel Schueneman (right) fell, 7-5, 6-1, to Jenna Forknell and Maria Wanzek in 16U Doubles but, with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sophie Keelin and Anna Frie, took second place.

HERE COMES THE HERD: Barnes County North Pushes Past Kidder County

Finding a way to win yields the same result as a sweep, especially on Senior Night.

Abby Undem’s 12 kills, four digs and four blocks and Shelby Brown’s six kills and four blocks helped upstart Barnes County North sink the Pirates of Kidder County, 3-1 (22-25, 27-25, 25-21, 25-20), for their third win in their last five regular matches after only two in their first 11.

Hi-Liners, Barnes County North Run at Cross Country State

There was plenty of Barnes County representation at Saturday's State Cross Country Meets at Souris Valley Golf Course in Minot.

Valley City took 17th of 20 Class A Girls 4k teams with 532 points and 20th of 20 in the Class A Boys 5k with 793 points.

Barnes County North's girls came 20th of 39 Class B 4k teams with 681 points, the Bison boys 35th of 40 Class B 5k teams with 951 points.

Leave it to a Hi-Liner-Squirrels game to be as nutty as possible.

Noah Knutson, Central Cass’s 5-foot, 10-inch senior running back in his first-ever football appearance, returned a pair of kickoffs for scores, caught a touchdown pass and powered for another on the ground at Hanna Field on Friday to help fifth-place Central Cass escape a 16-6 hole and take the fourth and final AA East seed from third-place Valley City, 40-32.

LaMoure Sweeps Barnes County North

Jayda Haugen’s nine assists, six digs, four aces and a kill led the Barnes County North stampede at District 5 rival LaMoure on Tuesday night, but 5-foot, 4-inch freshman setter Jackie Meiklejohn’s 28 assists, 11 digs and five aces led the Loboes to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-14) sweep.

Lexi Rose hustled for 14 Bison digs, Sam Wieland eight digs, two kills and a block, Allison Klein six digs and an ace, Abby Undem four kills and a dig, Shelby Brown three kills, Hannah Willson two kills and two digs.

DIGGING DEEP: Bachmeier, Fargo North Put Hi-Liners Away

It’s been a tough week-and-a-half for Sam Coit, Reagan Ingstad and eighth-place Hi-Liner volleyball, whose standing reflects just how competitive their matches are.

Coit and Ingstad both went for 15 assists and eight digs in a Volley for a Cure and Dig Pink Night campaign to avenge Sept. 4’s 3-0 (18-25, 17-25, 20-25) loss at fifth-place Fargo North Tuesday, but Spartan sophomore 5-foot, 9-inch outside hitter Alexis Bachmeier’s 18 kills and four blocks and 5-foot, 6-inch junior libero Kalli Baarstad’s 19 digs gave North the 3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 15-25, 25-19) season sweep.
