VC teams to play on Concordia turf

September 8, 2010

The Valley City High School football team will get a rare treat Friday when they go on the road to play Oak Grove.

The two teams will meet in Moorhead to play their game on new outdoor field turf installed this summer at Jake Christensen Stadium on the Concordia College campus. The game will be at 4 p.m. because there are no lights at the stadium.

On Saturday, Valley City State's football team will take to the same turf to play Concordia College at 1 p.m.

Area volleyball teams had a tough night Tuesday.

Valley City dropped its match against Shanley in straight sets, 25-16, 25-9, 25-15

Litchville-Marion-Montpelier fell in straight sets to Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal, 25-21, 25-9, 25-10.

Maple Valley lost its Tuesday match in four sets to Milnor, 25-16, 22-25, 25-7, 26-24.

Weekend Football Roundup

Three area football teams earned their first wins of the season Friday night.

Valley City shut out Carrington for an 18-0 victory on the road, improving to 1-1 on the season.

LaMoure-Litchville-Marion held off Griggs-Barnes County in a Class A, Region 1 matchup, 28-20 in Wimbledon. LLM is now 1-1, GBC is 1-2.

Maple Valley/Enderlin pulled a slight upset, knocking off Milnor/North Sargent 26-20 in overtime Friday in Buffalo. MVE moves to 1-1 on the season.

Cards stun Hi-Liners

September 1, 2010

Carrington staved off five straight match points Tuesday night in Valley City as they rallied from two sets down for a thrilling five-set victory over the Hi-Liners in high school volleyball, 22-25, 20-25, 27-25, 25-23, 15-8.

Valley City won the first two sets and held a 24-19 lead in set three before Carrington changed the match by scoring six straight points and eight of the last nine to win the set.

Up next: Valley City goes to Devils Lake on Thursday for an EDC match.

VC Country Club wins Hi-Line Cup

August 31, 2010

The Valley City Town and Country Club defeated Bjornson Park 15-6 to win the 3rd annual Hi-Line Cup held last weekend in Valley City.

It's the second win for the Country Club, which also won the Cup in 2008.

The Hi-Line Cup is a Ryder Cup-style golf competition between members of the Valley City Town and Country Club, and Bjornson Park Public Golf Course.

The CC won six out of seven team matches Saturday at Bjornson, and then won nine of 14 singles matches Sunday at the Country Club.

VCSU golf opens Wednesday

August 31, 2010

The Valley City State men's and women's golf team open their second year of play Wednesday at the Jimmie Open in Jamestown — a non-conference meet.

In the inaugural year of the golf programs in 2009, both the men's and women's teams finished last in the Dakota Athletic Conference.
